Scenic beauty-Karayar Dam,Papanasam.

Papanasam is an extraodinary scenic spot is what i could say, It took us about an hour to reach this place which comes around 60 Kms from my hometown Tirunelveli. The first when i stepped out of my car and i saw these beautiful mountains covered in mist and surrounded by water, it felt like 'Nature at its best". Quickly i clicked a shot of it, which i thought i should not miss. This place is called as Karayar Dam, where these water comes from Baanatheertham falls(which flows into the Karayar dam).

​ Actually this was my second trip to this place with my friend, where we thought of capturing every scenic areas that we would come across in the whole travel, but unlikely at that time the water level is too low in the dam so they stopped the boat services to go to the other side, which gave us a huge disappointment. So with some more capturing of scenic shots at the location and selfies we drove back home.One must be careful with the season of visit since it can happen this way if we hit in the wrong season. January-February is a perfect time, with the rainy seasons just about over and the dams in full flow.

But i would like to share the experience of my first trip at this place and the places we traveled along.Bad luck is,i had not bought my SLR at that time, so we just took pictures in mobiles which is not much in clarity. So in case if you need a view,google it to see more pictures about this place. Next time i will go at the correct time to capture the entire travel experience and will post as an album.

The actual route from Tirunelveli to Karayar is,

Tirunelveli --> Tharuvai --> Cheranmahadevi --> Ambasamudram -->Papanasam -->Karaiyar.

The Time when we enter Papanasam is, where the Reserve Forest area begins.Then after few kms after the road diverges into two, one which goes to Agasthiyar Falls and the other which heads up to Karayar Dam. The beauty of the ride from Papanasam till Karayar Dam was really exquisite.Do pack your own stuffs and food mainly as you will not find any hotels until you reach the hills.

After reaching Karayar Dam, they will setup a boat ride for around 300 Rs. It was the best boat ride i would say. These were well maintained by Tamilnadu Tourism Development.The boat took us to the other side of mountain which is actually to a dense forest.Getting down at the shore on the other side will lead to a pathway that will take us into the dense forest and to the Falls where we can stop by and enjoy the water.This will be more like a awesomatic trekking experience.

So if you planning a trip to Tirunelveli or Kanyakumari or nearby places, Do not Forget this place. Karayar is a must visit place, make sure whether it is on your list.
